What a humble approach, love your attitude 👏👏. The idea looks super efficient! Did you use a simple beamer on the ceiling ? Or any special fancy pans CAD projector?
The other way round seems more reasonable to me: Get the image of your prop with a live cam and use it as an overlay in your application. The tool Lightburn does this for laser engravers with remarkable precision.
