Or we can just boycott companies that use proprietary stuff like this and instead buy printers from companies that don't do this. I remember when I started printing almost a decade ago we had a machine with a similar system that had cartridges that were proprietary at school. The system would also tell the machine that the spool was empty long before it actually was.

This is BS. Sure, you can still print, but why go so far out of their way to lock this feature out? I hate to be the slippery slope guy, but it just seem like they are trying to ease the hobby away from what made it great

I don’t see an issue tbh. You can still use any filaments without auto detection, since it is not from Bambu… I am buying all the filaments from them for that convenience and you can reuse the spool too
