Keeping your chickens hydrated and healthy is crucial, especially during hot weather or times of stress. A simple, homemade electrolyte solution can provide the necessary minerals and hydration they need. Here’s an easy recipe you can make at home:
Ingredients:
2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons molasses
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
Instructions:
1. Warm the Water: Start with 2 cups of warm water. The warmth helps dissolve the ingredients more easily.
2. Add Molasses: Stir in 2 tablespoons of molasses. Molasses provides a quick source of energy and essential minerals.
3. Mix in Salt: Add 2 teaspoons of salt. Salt is crucial for replenishing lost sodium
4. Incorporate Baking Soda: Finally, add 2 teaspoons of baking soda. Baking soda helps to balance the pH levels and provides additional electrolytes.
Usage:
• Serve Immediately: Offer this electrolyte solution to your chickens right away to ensure they receive the benefits of the freshly mixed ingredients.
• Storage: If you have any leftover solution, store it in a clean, airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake well before each use.
This homemade electrolyte drink can be a lifesaver during hot weather, times of illness, or after stressful events like transportation. Always ensure your chickens have access to fresh, clean water alongside this electrolyte solution.

Chickens have no sweat glands do this is how they cool. Energy demand is really high when hens get hot so it can really help to change to a high Energy diet with extra fats and oils, tallow, etc.
If you wet the ground for them to walk on supply lots of water to drink and shade that works really well. No need for a concoction. Cool the feet and it cools their body
thank you for sharing this! My husband just shared this video with me, the high today where we are is 103 tomorrow it’s 106 so we will be mixing up some of this concoction for our feathered friends!
A nice big watermelon makes my girls happy on a hot day.
will you please provide the name and link for the water feeder?
Can you also use hunny instead of molasses ? 😁
Why the baking soda?

We can't post everyday news, but this kind of nonsense is allowed. Honestly, this world is getting worse.
