1940s pulp magazine predictions were wild. Back before Louis LaMour was a renound western writer, he wrote a good deal for these magazines. In the early 1940s, he decided to write a short story about an American Airman who gets shot down over an island, and discovers a secret Japanese Air base. He used his knowledge of the South Pacific (I believe he did some ocean-going freighting prewar) along with the latest news about the war to place his fictitious air base somewhere that could easily harass American shipping supporting Guadalcanal, but out of the way enough as to not be immediately found. While his short story was being published, the U.S. Navy located a previously-unknown Jap air base on the very island he had used as his setting. The story and the news hit the streets at roughly the same time, meaning they were most likely simply a coincidence, but even still it was an eerie coincidence.
