At $3,400, we think this dining chair is a bargain… here’s why. This is called the Fjoon chair by an Oregon-based workshop called Fernweh. They go through meticulous and painstaking steps to craft their work. In this case, boards of walnut have been carefully selected for each component part. Complex joinery plays a big role in the expressiveness of these pieces, but also in how they are constructed. The Fjoon shows off a wedged tenon as one example. So why is it priced like it is and why do we feel that has great value? Well, the pieces are constructed largely from solid hardwood, which is sourced domestically. They are crafted in the US and with a team of fairly paid woodworkers. They are also a small operation with high cost of overhead and equipment that allow them to produce mega high quality products in small batches (or large when needed). From a design perspective, this design is by founder Justin Nelson himself and there is considerable time and energy put into the development. For these reasons, we see Fernweh as a workshop that has potential to have a sort of collector appeal in the future given the unique position they hold at the intersection of manufactured design and a technology-embracing take on studio craft.

But the price of two chairs can get you a yacht 🤣
Most people have no idea how expensive good woodworking
that's a difficult chair to build..
Beautifully crafted. Love the lines
Fantastic chair
🔥
So beautiful
Nice
That chair belongs in a museum! (said in our best Indiana Jones voice)
The average obese American will destroy this chair in a year….
For this chair, you cant be more than 6’3 and have to weigh less than 200lbs, yeah its nice on the eye, but model 711 to me is far superior in that price point
Definitely not hand made, and not worth 3.4k. 300 400 is a fair price. Anything above and I suggest you use a dildo instead, there are cheaper ways of getting screwed.
Imagine getting a set of 8 for a dining table 😂
