This is why you should always, always, have old dictionaries and old books in your house. I have books that date back to the late 1880s. In looking through these old texts, I’ve found words I never heard of! Keep language alive, for language is the foundation of civilization; and once lost, we lose more than just words, we lose history, art, innovation, culture, and tradition. We become flat, one-dimensional creatures with no curiosity, no intelligence, no sense of right and wrong, no memory, and no light.

Words have power. The Bible was spoken and breathed into being. The tongue has life or death.

Which is another reason why y’all need Gen X. We were part of an experiment that did not teach phonics;; we were taught site reading. Our favorite book was the dictionary and the thesaurus. We got words, baby.

100% fettuccine, rotini, manicotti, orzo, etc., becomes pasta, then becomes noodles. Apply this example to thousands of others. As a 61 year old, native English speaker and avid reader, I challenge anyone born after 1990 to read any original print novel printed before 1970, then see how many words you come across that you don't know, or couldn't spell. And for anyone born after 2000, can you read the original US Constitution and its amendments. Now define illiterate...

In Europe, they struggle to understand the concept of self governance. This could explain that phenomenon

My mom recently passed and I wrote up an obituary of her life. In it, I spoke about my mom’s travels, especially Israel, where she saw places Jesus walked. My daughter dropped it into ChatGPT and a much more eloquently written obituary came out. Except the Jesus part. ChatGPT edited out Jesus.

Hmm feels like there was a literal book written about this once. Words slowly eliminated, the thought police.. maybe the title was a year? 1994? 1985? Right on the tip of my tongue..

We need to create a “vanishing word” dictionary. It would probably end up on the banned books list but I collect those like my life depends on it already, because it just might 🤷🏼‍♀️ How do we go about doing something like that? 🤔
