The federal government shutdown is 100% caused by the Filibuster Rule (filibuster procedural rule) in the Senate (U.S. Senate) -- not the Democrats. It is entirely the Republicans’ fault. The Filibuster Rule is not part of the U.S. Constitution or the 'original Senate' (1789). It was added later as an unethical and illogical procedural rule that blocks normal lawmaking by requiring 60 votes instead of a 'Simple Majority' (50% plus one). Ending the Filibuster Rule would restore Simple Majority rule, make U.S. Senators accountable to voters, and allow the U.S. Congress to actually govern. Right now, 51 U.S. Senators could vote to remove the Filibuster Rule. There are 53 Republicans in the Senate -- they could fix this today if they wanted to. Senate Democrats tried to perform a formal rule change and remove the Filibuster Rule back in 2022 when they held 51 seats, but two Democrats (both now out of office) voted no and blocked it. That is why this mess continues. Only the U.S. President was intended to have veto power over normal lawmaking -- not a minority political party through a procedural rule.
