The "cipher /w:c" method works reasonably well for HDDs but not for SSDs. Due to the way SSDs manage data internally, this method is both unsafe (reduces SSD lifespan) and ineffective for securely erasing SSDs. To ensure data is truly unrecoverable, either physically destroy the SSD or encrypt the drive and securely destroy the encryption key. ATA Secure Erase can also be used, but it carries some risk, as it operates at the firmware level and may potentially brick the drive.
