Before texts and emails, messages traveled as sound.
Morse Code converts letters and numbers into short and long signals (dots and dashes) that can be transmitted through light, sound, or radio. Each pattern represents a specific character, allowing operators to send information across long distances using simple signals.
Invented in the 19th century, it became a foundation of early long-distance communication and is still recognized worldwide—especially the famous distress signal SOS.

this is actually a perfect visual representation. Great way to learn.

i'm always wondering by what logic this is sorted, i just can't connect the dots
İts called "alphabet" not language.
What confuses me about Morse code is, as the receiver, how are you supposed to know when one letter ends and another begins? Is it all just context and experience? Feels like it would take forever to decode each message.

The Genius Behind Morse Code. Morse Code was built for maximum efficiency. It’s basically the 19th-century version of text abbreviations!
Frequency First: Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail gave the shortest codes (like . for E) to the most common letters to speed up typing.Simple
Tech: Early telegraphs could only send "on" or "off" signals, so dots and dashes were the only way to talk over wires.
Built for the Ear: It’s timed perfectly—a dash is exactly 3x longer than a dot—so operators could "hear" the message without looking at a screen.
Universal: Because it only needs a simple pulse, it works with everything from flashlights and mirrors to tapping on a wall.
I feel this is how we texted on our phone pads originally
Got me fucked up if you think I could decode this
Ahh the original SMS ring tone ...--...
