Twelve days after viral videos prompted a wave of concern about the structural integrity of a North Austin flyover, the Texas Department of Transportation will shut down parts of the interchange overnight to fix what it says are bridge joints that have “expanded beyond the intended design.”

Could you also do a story on how difficult it is to see lane markings throughout Austin? In many areas, the lines are extremely faint. They’re hard to see even on clear days and nearly impossible to make out when it rains.
What are we going to fix next guys? Clearly we have some power!
I was the one who called TxDot to report it. When I called they had no reports called in. Was not aware of the social media images and only knew of the westbound flyover to IH35 south. Finally after enough of me stressing the urgency she said she will dispatch a truck to go assess the flyover. At first they said they were going to fix the southbound flyover later this year. Happy to see them taking it all serious and getting it repaired.

As long as you’re driving over 90 miles an hour, which most Austinites are, this is totally fine. Even better if tailgating the car ahead of you. 🚘
