A long time ago - in this galaxy - #StarWars was a gamble for everybody involved. It was Fox’s big summer movie for 1977, George Lucas was staking the rest of his career on a pure-hearted throwback to the days of old sci-fi serials, and nobody involved knew how a science-fiction film of this scale would do financially.
A year before its release, before they developed the iconic John Williams score or the memorable title xard design, they sent this trailer out to theaters to explain just what, exactly, Star Wars was going to be. But nobody involved had any clue just how big it would get.
Happy May the 4th, everyone!! What’s your favorite chapter in the epic Star Wars saga?

That was amazing. No John Williams score, no colors on the lightsabers, no official logo…that was so cool to see!!
Nobody noticed? The trailer narration was by ORSON WELLES!
I remember seeing this and my mind was blown, it’s hard to convey the feelings and magnitude that this film had at the time. The 70s was a time for change a slow maturity for something more. The birth of us nerds 💪🏽
I was 9 going on 10 in ‘77 and all in! It’s so amazing being 58 years old, sitting having a morning cup of coffee and watching this on my phone. Chills right away and getting the exact same energized feeling.
Now if we can just get our hands on the ORIGINAL released version
A boy a girl and a universe....
Ahhh memories!
Sound effects, but temp music track. And no Star Wars logo yet, just the words.
Watching this brings back the excitement and anticipation …those were great days.
Also the first intersection of Star Wars and Star Trek cast. The voiceover is performed by Malachi Throne, who portrayed Commodore Mendez in TOS Trek. FWIW
The Sting was re-released in '76 and I went to see it at the old El Camino theater in Scottsdale. This played as a coming attraction. At that time and being 12 yrs old, it was the most awesome thing I had ever seen.
THAT'S WILLIAM SHATNER (STAR TREK'S CAPTAIN KIRK) DOING THE VOICE OVER TOO!!!🖖🖖
I saw this trailer at the cinema and literally counted down the days until the movie was released. I was so excited!
The narrator is the same guy who narrates the Haunted Mansion at the Disney parks.
Amazing to see this without a single note of what is in everybody's head ever since! I watched the movie 52 times when it was released.
It just makes the John Williams score that much more appreciated for the genius It was then and still is and will be forever.
No Williams soundtrack 😱 It almost seems something totally different... also, Darth Vader with a blue sword 😂
