What an insult…simple car to restore, what a tool!
Do your homework before you make any comments… this is not a prototype… it’s more than likely a KDF car from the 1940’s before the company was renamed Volkswagen… and there was no chrome on a standard model… only the deluxe version had chrome…
They lost all credibility when they said "this is a fairly simple car to restore."
That's not a 1 off prototyope.
That's a 1939/1940s Kdf Wagen right here. Kdf stands for "Kraft durch Freude" which translate from german as "Strength through Joy".
This is a car made by a project of the nazi party in which everyone by saving 5 marks a month would be able evenctually to own a car. The car was priced at 990 marks. In general this is considered the precursor of wolkswagen and in this project was envolved eng. Porsche who later founded the famous sports car brand
Hi all,
There is so much nonsense in the comments as well as the article.
Fact is: it is a 1944 Kdf car, originally restored (only the semaphores are wrong in my opinion). It is one of 630 kdf type 82e/92 produced during 1942 and 1944. There are around 30 survivors existing. I own two myself and know the owner personally.
Kdf wagen 🤷🏻♀️…. Not many left but not a “one off” 🤓
Super easy to restore, you just go down to O'Reilly and get everything for it!
How about an overall look at it !
Chrome doesn’t make it go any faster, generally more maintenance and usually more expensive to replace or refurbish. See a lot of vehicles with no chrome old and new that look way better. All about preference.
That’s a semaphore and west coast metric has the parts.
Door hinges don’t look KdF
They made chrome free bugs. That’s not a prototype. That’s a very early model. They also made chrome free versions to sell for less money in countries besides the USA. I’ve got a 66 van that didn’t have any chrome.
Beatle 1955/60
It's an old volkswagen bug for crying out loud
Brilliant design and lots of amazing things and people concentrating on the indicators- this is so 2020!
