The sides could be less flared but that’s insane! I can’t think of what book would be best stored this way. Maybe lord of the rings and a painted Sauron on the fore-edge?

Really cool! It looks like the ribbon is the only thing in the inside lifting the book, for prototype 2 maybe add some sort of lifting panel under the book connected to the center of two straps, that way when putting the book back inside it pulls on the center of the ribbon, pulling both sides in evenly
