ElevenLabs just got KILLED by a single open-source model.
Stop paying $22/month for a voice. The cloning studio nobody could build for free has been built for free, and it's Apache 2.0, runs on your own GPU, no API key. Built by OpenBMB. Trained on 2 million+ hours of multilingual audio.
One model, four modes:
🗣️ Voice Cloning: drop a 5 to 30 second clip, the model clones the timbre. Two modes (controllable for style adjustments, ultimate for max similarity).
🎨 Voice Design: describe a voice in plain English ("middle-aged man, deep authoritative") and the model generates it. No reference audio needed.
🌐 30 Languages: auto-detection on inference. No language tag, no separate model per language.
🎚️ 48kHz Studio Output: native, no external upsampler. Runs on 8GB VRAM.
The catch: "free" means no subscription, not zero cost. You need an NVIDIA GPU and 8GB disk space for the model weights. Light use saves you the $22/mo. Heavy use, you're already running the GPU you'd need.
ElevenLabs was charging for the inference. The inference is now a GitHub repo.
