The Legendary Painkiller Born at Soggy Dollar Bar 🏝️🍹
We’re sipping the Painkiller on Pouring Stories. This tropical cocktail invented at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. This beach bar (where you swim ashore and pay with soggy dollar bills) created the ultimate island escape back in the ‘70s. J.R. Starkus breaks down its story while we enjoy our slightly altered version. Pure vacation in a glass.
Original Soggy Dollar Painkiller Recipe:
Ingredients:
• 2 oz Pusser’s Rum
• 4 oz Pineapple Juice
• 1 oz Orange Juice
• 1 oz Cream of Coconut
• Fresh grated nutmeg (for garnish)
Build: Shake all ingredients with ice. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice. Top with freshly grated nutmeg.
Who’s making one this weekend? Drop a 🏝️ if you’re in.

i dont think ive ever not lost weight on a vacation, we just don't realize how inactive we are most of the time
Another way for overpaid bartenders to get more. Oh and thanks for explaining the obvious about the bar name 🤦♂️
I leave their webcam up while at work. Fun to watch everyone taking pictures waving to the camera. The weight loss can be attributed to walking to and from the bar. Walking in sand burns more calories...
Your liver died a little. That's where the 5lbs went 🔥
That is not why it is called that. The real story is that sailors had to swim up and all their money got wet. They would hang it as payment to dry. Hence the name “Soggy Dollar”. You’re welcome.
The swim in is a lot more fun than the swim back! have had a couple close calls over the years. After a few hours and many drinks no one wants to be the lightweight that needs the dinghy pickup. 😂
Growing up in St John’s in the 70s Jost was a magical untouched place on earth . Now people disgust their importance of a drink . So sad
I love the Soggy Dollar !!! I went a few years ago . Love that island
Can't confirm if they still do this, but was there in late 90s and stayed overnight on the property. The bar closed around 6pm, but they kept the bar open to guests all night with an honor system. Each room had a tab on the wall and just write down what you had. One of the best nights!
That’s a minute of my life I’ll never get back
Dont blast it plsss. Keep it hush 🤫
Was there 30 years ago. The BVIs are beautiful 😍😍
