Breyers used to be made with four ingredients: milk, cream, sugar, and natural flavouring. Now the majority of their products can’t legally be called ice cream. They fail the FDA’s 10% milkfat requirement, so the label reads “Frozen Dairy Dessert” — not ice cream. They sit on the same shelf, same freezer aisle, same price point as real ice cream. Most people never notice the difference on the label.
The ingredient list now includes corn syrup, whey, carob bean gum, guar gum, tara gum, mono and diglycerides, and annatto colouring. A TikTok showing Breyers left out overnight went viral — it deflated to half the container because the air whipped inside escaped. Breyers blamed consumer demand for a “smoother texture.” What they mean is cheaper ingredients, more air, longer shelf life, and higher margins. Unilever — the parent company — kept the Breyers name, kept the branding, kept the price, and quietly replaced what was inside. You’re paying ice cream prices for something that legally isn’t ice cream.

Arrest them and bring back real ice cream
This should be illegal
Breyers ‘frozen dairy dessert’ cannot legally identity as ‘ice cream’ due to less than 10% milk-fat inside, scanning hidden trans fats linked to heart disease. Comment EXPOSR to scan safer alternatives 🔎
I can't take this world anymore
The amount of people who don’t care is even worse 🫣
What do you expect when you don’t hold ANYONE accountable for ANYTHING they do.
why is nothing safe.
I had Bryers in my freezer so I checked it. And it says “frozen dairy dessert” throwing this away now.
Hey everyone, switch to Turkey Hill’s Simply Natural. It’s real! Four or five ingredients.
Thanks FDA!!
I've been eating Breyers since I was a kid so I knew immediately when they changed and I stopped buying
I make ice cream at home. It costs less by volume, is all natural (therefore healthier) and tastes way better than premium brands of store bought ice cream. Here’s how- Take 16 oz Heavy cream, 14 oz can of sweet condensed milk, 8 oz reg milk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 oz vanilla extract. 1/2 tsp salt. Whip the cream with an electric mixer till thickened slightly. (Like 90 seconds with a hand held electric mixer) Whisk in all other ingredients. Mix thoroughly, Freeze. Done. Best vanilla ice cream ever. (I like to add a generous amount of coffee concentrate halfway through freezing… or let your frozen vanilla ice cream melt halfway… when soft-set, thoroughly mix it in, freeze till soft-set again and stir one last time ..because the concentrate settles to the bottom... Finish freezing and enjoy the most amazing coffee ice cream in the world. Freaking delicious. The chocolate recipe is more labor intensive, so DYOR) You’re welcome.
They did this 2 years ago. Now dreyers as well has done this btw and some other nestle products
