Apple's SpeechAnalyzer API just got properly benchmarked against Whisper, and the results are worth paying attention to. It runs fully on-device, requires no model download, and holds its own on accuracy while using far fewer resources than self-hosted Whisper. If you're building apps that need transcription, this might be the option you didn't know you had.
