In the 1990s, Jatech created a disappearing door system for the Lincoln Mark VIII that retracted beneath the car’s body instead of swinging outward. The setup required lengthened doors and retracting glass to clear the B-pillar, leaving a wide, seamless opening that looked futuristic and made entry easier in tight spaces. While it was promoted as stylish and even structurally beneficial, the design proved too mechanically complex and impractical for real-world use, so it never moved beyond the concept stage.

Im sure mechanics loved this feature
Why are the cars nowadays so bad it’s like it’s not even evolving anymore. So many good ideas never reached final release 🥲
Wait… where these at????
Tesla will get ahold of this and it will be on the new 2027 version
How do you open it for your lady
LOL. Designers definitely live in their own bubble. Just think of the filth and road salt getting caught up in that mechanism. Seriously, get outside a bit🤪
But we’re in the future now where we can do things more better’er! I want disappearing car doors!
Who has one? Send pictures 👏
I’m thinking, living in Ontario Canada, what hell would happen to the inside of that car during a snowstorm 😂
As long as it never gets stuck 😩
Didn't BMW make something similar?
What about if you got mugged or carjacked with the door down?
Futuristic and way better than todays horrid looking ugly cars
