Most apples at the grocery store aren’t fresh off the tree — they’ve been stored for months (sometimes up to a year) and coated in a plastic-based wax to make them look shiny and extend shelf life. 😳
That glossy finish?
It’s not nature — it’s food-grade polyethylene, a form of plastic designed to seal in moisture and prevent spoilage.
Here’s the crazy part👇
➡️ That coating traps pesticide residues underneath.
➡️ It keeps oxygen out — but also seals in chemicals.
➡️ And you can’t wash it off with water.
So when you bite into that perfect-looking apple, you might also be biting into a thin layer of plastic.

Idiocy. Apples are stored hypobarically (google that if you want to know what that is, hint, it’s harmless) which preserves them for up to a year, that’s why they’re available year round. They are also coated with a digestible food grade wax to keep them from drying out while they are in storage. They may have some pesticide residue but they were washed after picking and before being coated with the wax for storage. This has been a practice for over 50 years now. Sitting in traffic and breathing the air for 15 minutes is worse than anything one would ingest from eating a store bought apple.
They’re a year old but last two weeks in my pantry… makes sense
This just got me to get out of bed and look at my apples
apples have a natural wax coating called a "bloom" that helps them retain moisture and protects against microorganisms… but yes 4 means it has pesticides
Thank you for reposting my video, bro
Any apple at a grocery store has wax on it unfortunately 😢
So that 4 number is a product code for item lookup at point of sale. The wax is a natural process and is 100% digestable and bio-degradable.
WTF!
Ohh I always peel the skin off of the apples I feed my kids
So wash them??
Wash all fruits and veggies with water with vinegar in it. Always. Right in the sink in the strainer. Always

Why would people want us to eat plastic?!
Whats the difference between the 9 and the 4? and is this rule for all produce?
