Meta just launched SAM 3D, two models that rebuild objects, scenes, and people from a single image. You can try them in the web based SegmentCurtohing Playground or run them from released checkpoints. Behind the scenes they already support a “View in Room” preview for decor items in Facebook Marketplace.
SAM 3D Objects turns one product or scene photo into a textured 3D mesh with shape and layout that you can inspect from new angles. SAM 3D Body recovers a full body human mesh, including hands and feet, and outputs pose, shape, and camera details on top. Meta is also shipping a new SAM 3D Artist Objects benchmark so researchers can compare 3D quality on tougher, more realistic examples.
For creators and teams, that means turning flat photos into ready to use 3D assets that can drop straight into AR previews or simulation tools.
What would you turn into 3D first?

people don’t realize, but it will cost us a lot in the future
We live in a simulation and we're working out how to make our own simulations that are better and more realistic at an accelerated pace. Soon, we won't distinguish between our "reality" and our simulations
And yet here I’ll be modeling things traditionally because this is a stupid tool no one needed
Why do I need this?
why did people need this?
I tried it and it’s nowhere as good as they portray it to be, pretty disappointed.
Wild how a single snapshot can now become an explorable world 🔥
Goodluck
What’s the practical use of this for everyone out there?
High quality a bit strong maybe ok for reference or background objects
Nice!!! If I feed it an aerowatercraft superyacht design that I created in Google Drawings, and I have multiple designs from different angles in the same image, can it turn those into a single 3D model?
Why it called SAM though?
