After a 4-year closure, Sequoia National Park’s underground marvel finally welcomed visitors back again in 2025 — and it was even more magical than we could have expected. Think: waterfalls, marble creek beds, and cave bacon 🥓 (yes, really).
Here’s what you need to know for 2026:
🗓️ When to Go:
Crystal Cave is open from May 22-November 1 (weather permitting)
🎟 How to Book:
Tours must be reserved in advance with @sequoiaparksconservancy at http://sequoiaparksconservancy.org. Tickets are $22 for adults and $11 for children, and will sell out quickly, so book early! Tickets are not sold at the cave entrance. *Park entry not included.
🥾 Getting There:
The cave trailhead is a 45-min drive from the Foothills Entrance. After parking, there’s a roughly 0.25mi hike (downhill on the way in, uphill on the way out!). Vehicles over 22 feet (6.7 m) and towed trailers are not allowed on the cave road.
🧥 What to Wear:
Bring a jacket, it’s always around 50°F inside the cave, even on hot summer days. Wear sturdy shoes for the trail and no flip-flops on the tour.
🚫 What NOT to bring:
Food, gum, drinks (yes, even water) are not allowed in the cave. You’ll also need to leave behind backpacks or large bags. There are some tight squeezes on the tour, so only bring what you can carry.
🕯 What You’ll See:
Guided tours take you through a half-mile loop filled with shimmering formations, fairy pools, and the sound of running water echoing through marble passageways.
🍦Soft Adventure Rating:
This is a solid soft adventure! There’s some decent inclination at parts, and quite a few stairs, but we’d definitely say the Crystal Cave Tour is Soft Adventure Approved. 👍🏼
🌲 Crystal Cave is a rare glimpse beneath the sequoias — and it’s finally yours to explore again. Don’t miss it.

Wife and I were the only visitors with the guide. He brought along a guitar and played it in complete darkness in one of the halls. Magical!
wonderful! Always remember to give thanks everywhere you go, for being allowed to experience such beauty ❤️ Leave it better than you found it.
I always confused this place with Joshua tree 😂😂
