Iron Eagle Soundtrack – 1986 (First Pressing)
You might be wondering why I own this soundtrack. Truth is, I didn’t exactly choose it—it chose me.
Back in the day, there was a service called Columbia House. The deal sounded irresistible: 10 records for a penny… with the small catch that you had to buy several more at full price later. Each month, they’d send you a card, and if you forgot to mail it back declining the selection, boom—you were automatically sent that month’s pick and billed for it.
That’s how the Iron Eagle soundtrack landed in my collection. At first, I was annoyed. But over time, I came around—it’s actually a great album. You’ve got tracks from Queen, Dio, Helix, the criminally underrated King Kobra, and Eric Martin. It’s one of those soundtracks that ends up being better than the movie it came from.
Speaking of the film, Iron Eagle definitely leans more on nostalgia than quality. I mean it still holds a special place in my memory, but revisiting it today… let’s just say it’s a tougher watch than I remembered. With that said, I still love the movie.

Temu version!? Put some respect to the name!
Temu Top Gun?!? Blasphemy!!! Not only did Iron Eagle come out first, but Doug Masters was a better pilot than Pete Mitchell.
1. Doug Masters didn’t just handle the air-to-air threats. He also bodied ground targets. He destroyed strategic targets like oil refineries and airfields. He even fired an AGM-65 while on the ground to rescue his dad.
2. Masters rigged a cool sound system for his jet. Maverick had to listen to a RIO.
4. Doug Masters used the cannon. But in the last dogfight of “Top Gun,” Maverick forgot that his Tomcat was equipped with an M61. This could have been very useful at some points of the engagement – like when Iceman had that MiG on his tail.
Doug Masters, on the other hand, was a dead-eye with his cannon. We all know that gun kills are the best kills, right?
5. Maverick had three confirmed “Mig-28” kills in “Top Gun.” Not bad, especially since he used four missile shots to get that.
Here is what Doug Masters shot down: Four MiGs and two choppers. Add to that the multiple SAM launchers and AAA guns. Don’t forget the other ground targets as well, even if he shared the first airfield with Chappy Sinclair.
It took two Top Gun movies and 36 years for Maverick to catch up to Doug Masters’ A2A kill score.
6. And Doug Masters made all of his accomplishments before 9am
Thank you for coming to my ‘Tism Talk.

Road of a Gypsy. What a track!
Would have love to see a post about the Snake Race scene with Rainey Haynes' Old Enough to Rock and Roll in the background 🙌
Iron Eagle I watched on a loop when I was a kid! And, also watched a lot of Too Gun. And, Airwolf. Let's fly, baby!
One of the greatest 80’s action flicks ever!
