כשחשפתי בפניה את המשמעות של השם “העבדים” ואת העובדה שזו שכונה המיועדת רק לפלסטינים שחורים התגובה שלה השתנתה מקצה לקצה. רבים בקהילה השחורה מרגישים חיבור למאבק הפלסטיני מבלי להכיר את הג.ז.ע.נ.ו.ת המובנית והדיכוי שמתקיים בתוך החברה העזתית עצמה.

The Truth They Hide About Gaza: The Slave Neighborhood
In a conversation with an African American woman I asked her one simple question: Has she ever heard of the Al Abid neighborhood in Gaza?
When I revealed the literal meaning of the name “The Slaves” and the fact that this area is designated exclusively for Black Palestinians her entire perspective shifted. Many in the Black community support the Palestinian cause without knowing the systemic r.a.c.i.s.m and oppression that exists within Gazan society itself.

שכונת אל עאביד ממוקמת בלב העיר עזה ופירוש שמה המילולי הוא "שכונת העבדים". בשכונה מתגוררים פלסטינים שחורים, שחלקם הם צאצאים של אנשים שהובאו לאזור כעבדים בעבר. הקהילה הזו סובלת עד היום מאפליה חברתית ומגזענות בתוך החברה העזתית, והשימוש בשם "עביד" (עבדים) כלפיהם נפוץ לצערנו גם כיום. בעוד שבעולם מנסים להציג חזית פלסטינית אחידה, המציאות בשטח חושפת הפרדה ודיכוי על בסיס צבע עור בתוך עזה עצמה.

Facts about the Al-Abid neighborhood (Harat al-Abid):
The Al-Abid neighborhood is located in the heart of Gaza City, and its literal translation is "The Slaves' Quarter". The neighborhood is home to Black Palestinians, many of whom are descendants of people originally brought to the region through the slave trade. To this day, this community faces systemic social discrimination and racism within Gazan society, where the term "Abid" (slaves) is still frequently used as a derogatory label. While global narratives often portray a unified Palestinian front, the reality on the ground reveals segregation and oppression based on skin color right inside Gaza.

100% facts. As a black woman Ive never understood why black people follow Islam when they consider all blacks inferior to them and refer to them as slaves.
