Our amount was our age in dollars, and you kept half and saved half. By the time I left for university I had like $8k. We didn't get money for doing chores, we got it for being nice to our siblings and not fighting. Chores were seen as a fact of life and if mom and dad didn't get paid for chores then neither did we. We could do extra stuff and earn minimum wage for doing it, but allowances were based on being a good person, figuring out communication, compromise, and how to work with people that you don't always like.

Totally not relevant to this video, but I’m on day two of the black bag and so far my kids have lost shoes, clothes, stuffed animals, Yoto boxes and so much more…and they still haven’t noticed/haven’t cared… What this is really showing me is we have too much crap and they’re not grateful for any of it lol 🙃🥲🫪🫠

BRILLIANT! And WOW, did she ever discipline HERSELF to stay consistent. She clearly loved you enough to persevere through the years you thought she was being unfair. REAL love!! ❤️

We do this!! And we have a rule about wants and needs. If it’s a need, we provide. If it’s a want, they save for it. If they feel something is a need, they have to put a presentation together to explain why it’s a need and answer any questions we have.

tell me more… my lawyer mother would charge her hourly salary if she had to leave her job to come to the school to deal w/anything discipline to their allowance.. She came once for the older brother.🤣🤣

I can see it now, my daughter would choose to “pay” me a dollar to do the dishes, collect eggs, etc. 😆

Curious, your mom work outside the or was she a SAHM? This sounds like a great idea however I think id be the only one that could commit to the daily ledger updating.

Having a B cost you earning of the A is my main disagreement and I will stand on that hill.
Coming from a straight A student who didn’t have to work hard for most of my A’s and worked ridiculously hard for B’s in history classes because for whatever reason my brain had a hard time matching names with stories.

And this is why I’m entitled cause my parents gave me $100+ a week and I don’t clean shit now even with two kids and a man 😮😂

  • @tezroke 2026-06-15

Uhm.. can you share more of the unhinged things your mom did. What’s the black bag to clean up? I think I will be implementing this allowance opportunity with my teenager

  • @zak_tee13 2026-06-14

Would you put a stack of ones on the table in the restaurant and say “here is your potential tip, every time you mess up, I’m taking one away” ?

  • @amymacalik 2026-06-13

I remember asking my mom why she didn’t give me homework to do in the summer like Elsa did 😂 💖

  • @drjaderedfern 2026-06-16

My biggest fear is paying kids for grades, which attaches money and productivity to their worth - as an adult recovering from this, it feels sad that we need to reward & punish kids this way

    There are other ways x

  • @ddmoraauthor 2026-06-14

I know I didn't appreciate things my mom did until I found myself trying it with my kids 😂

  • @xivmrsq 2026-06-30

I'm glad this worked out for you.. but imagine if your employers withheld pay....no wait..nvm.😂
